Just suddenly have this urge to blog abt something i feel strongly...

Why is it that everything in the world has to be competitive. I mean, yes, we are born in a fast paced society, grew up in an environment whereby we race to achieve something 'great' everyday... but do we really have to be that way?

If I say i want to be a farmer... will people snort and laugh at me?

And imagine this. One day a teacher in XXX Primary school wants the students to write an essay and student A writes about wanting to be a quiet farmer because he loves to watch animals run around, while student B writes about wanting to be a famous doctor because he wants to save lives. Would you agree with me that generally a typical Singaporean will be more impressed with student B and feels that he/she will be someone who achieves great things in future?

I despise this group of adults... who only look at the superficial part of life. I was quite disappointed when i discussed this issue with someone and was rebutted that at least the education system allows everyone to study, unlike children in Cambodia, who dint even have the chance. True enough... I am thankful for being able to receive my education. But i feel it didnt have to be the way it is now...

I may be wrong but somehow when i look at it, many schools are turning into a business ground, where they use their students to advertise for their schools... I've seen so many schools publicising their top scorers on banners... and everyday when i scroll down Gebiz... there are so many schools which are looking for trainers to help improve their students' results, their students' performance.

I don't know why but it just disgust me... If you tell me parents are the ones who are causing this, due to the typical singaporean kiasu-ism, I think it takes both hands to claps. Precisely cause schools are encouraging this type of thinking, which is why parents are afraid that their child cant catch up in schools.

I've even heard of parents who are tchers themselves, making their own children do a powerpoint presentation at the age of 7, during their birthday party. I mean, how ridiculous is that... What happened to all the childhood every child is entitled to have. They are just simply forced to 'mature' and learn fast so that they can be the elites one day. But I truly often feel, our very own elites nowadays... few of them wish to stay in singapore at all because of our rigidness in so many areas.

I remember speaking to my nephew during my grandad's funeral. He looked so stressed and quiet. And all the adults are bombarding him about what he wants to do, what he is interested in. At the age of 9, I really don't think it is the right stage where we force a kid to decide his forte.

Or maybe it is just the society and its competitiveness that forces everyone to be impatient. Nobody wants to wait for results. They just want to SEE the results.
